Broxbourne Sailing Club

Sailing for the disabled

Broxbourne Sailing Club has become a specialist club with dedicated facilities to allow for disabled sailors. We have car parking facilites, wheelchair access and dedicated w.c. facilities.

Sailing wise, we have two kitted out Challenger trimarans which are specifically designed to get disabled people afloat. As they have three hulls, they are very stable, unsinkable, and won't capsize.

We have a dedicated wheelchair accessible pontoon, to make it easy for sailors to access the dinghies and a hoist for transfer from chair to boat.

Our disabled sailing has become very popular with regular sailors taking part in races and some of our open meetings.

We have also become part of Sailability which was set up by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to ensure that adults and children with any form of disability have the opportunity to get afloat.

Today RYA Sailability is the leading national charity for disabled sailing in the UK with over 15,000 sailors benefiting from its activities. RYA Sailability is considered to be the most active sailing organisation for people with disabilities in the world, there being over 200 clubs in the UK alone.
