Youth Fleet
We are a RYA accredited Training Centre and offer the RYA Youth Training Scheme for 8 to 16 year-olds and who are members of the Club. Using our fleet of junior boats (Toppers, RS Fevas and Laser Radials), the youth training scheme operates on Saturday mornings from the beginning of April through to the end of October.
Training is run by several fully qualified instructors, assisted, from time to time, by experienced sailors. We make a small charge for each session. Alongside the Youth Scheme, we offer training for parents who wish to learn to sail. As progression is made, we will encourage participation in the Club racing, either on their own or with an experienced club sailor. On Saturdays we can arrange separate starts for the training fleets.
We also give the youths the opportunity to become Assistant Instructors (AI's) as part of their sailing development together with access to own Power Boat 2 Course.
As members, youths and parents have access to the water at any time when there is support boat cover (generally Wednesday evenings and all-day Saturdays and Sundays).
During the year there will be a few events just for the youth such as the Youth Regatta, Youth Week, Away Days to other clubs. The first Friday of every month from April to October is a Social Night starting at 6pm, aimed at the youth for both on and off the water activities, where other club members can attend if they are brave enough.
The Club organises a range of social events during the year which the youth fleet and parents are very welcome to attend.
