Regatta, 6 and 7 September - Fantastic Weekend

What a fabulous weekend we had at the annual BSC Regatta. On Saturday, the lake looked deceptively calm when I arrived to start to prepare the breakfast of croissants and a healthy fruit & yoghurt bowl for our intrepid sailors! By the time of the first race the wind had started to perform nicely, with the committee boat starting in the middle of the lake so we had the beginnings of a challenging competition. A good mixture of fleets, Flying Fifteens, Fevas, RS Visions, Illusions, Lightenings, Tevas and of course, Lasers, made the races all the more exciting. Was great to see so many of our Youth Fleet taking part and enjoying the chase! After a lunch of hot homemade soup and rolls, the second and third race was ready to commence. This time the wind had got up and the gusts were certainly proving a challenge to our sailors! Our rescue crew were certainly kept busy!

In the evening we hosted Matthew English, the violinist, who played some fantastic jigs and ballads for us! We prepared a BBQ for the sailors and their guests, it was a very enjoyable evening, and the weather was kind enough for people to enjoy an alfresco dinner!

And there we were again on Sunday, with breakfast and a start of 10.45, today the wind was more steady and gave everyone a very chance to compete for the CUP! After lunch, we had the final race before coming in to the results in the afternoon!

Congratulations to Brian Turner and Jackie Burns taking first place, Richard Platts and Matthew taking second and Nick Law was third. Special mention to our Youth Fleet members who gave their all and completed all the races!
