Broxbourne Regatta Weekend 5 & 6 September.2026

Published 12:18 on 20 Sep 2026

After a summer of very light winds, the sailing gods relented and provided 2 days of champagne conditions for the Broxbourne Regatta Weekend. Saturday started with 2 races for the Youth and Novices resulting in some interesting interpretations of the rules and kept the support crews busy with their fair share of capsizes. Congratulations to Alice and Charlotte in a Feva for taking top spot closely followed by the toppers of Albert and Stanley.

The Race Officer set a challenging course for the 2 fleets for the main regatta racing in the afternoon. By this time the wind picked up a notch or 2 and as had the shifts but 26 boats over the 2 fleets started the 1st of the 2 afternoon races. Positions changed throughout the racing as the favoured side would suddenly become a complete disaster, and the outcome of each race could not be determined until the finish line was reached. This was borne out by 11 different boats taking the top 6 positions over the 2 races. The sailors returned to shore for very welcome afternoon BBQ.

Sunday arrived with the sun shining and the wind slightly more consistent in direction, good news for the sailors as there were 3 races planned, with 2 in the morning, then brunch, a final race and finally prize giving.

The more stable wind allowed for some excellent close racing and slightly more predictable results, and it was either superb brunch or exhaustion results in a reduced fleet of just 14 boats starting the and final race.

Overall, the weekend was a massive success with a total of 31 boats taking part involving nearly 50 sailors. A massive thanks to the Race Officer and support boat teams and those preparing such wonderful food, who forfeited their sailing to allow us to really enjoy ourselves. The results were definitely pushed into second place compared to the enjoyment everyone had, but congratulation must go to Russ and Bridgit Hall for winning the Regatta.
